I/O Controller

ServerEngines BladeEngine is a single-chip dual port 10 Gigabit Ethernet Network Interface Controller targeting enterprise applications requiring 10G wire-speed performance, multi-protocol offload capabilities and advanced I/O virtualization. The BladeEngine has two 10 Gigabit Ethernet interfaces which support XAUI, CX-4 and KX-4 physical interfaces and an x8 PCI-Express host bus interface. The Dual 10 gigabit Ethernet network ports can be configured as active/active or active/passive modes of operation.

The BladeEngine is built around an array of eight programmable packet engines, plus an additional ARM9 processor. By offloading TCP/IP, iSCSI and RDMA protocol processing from the host CPU to dedicated PEs, BladeEngine delivers a highly integrated, low power, high performance 10-Gbps Ethernet solution ideal for accelerating network and IP storage application performance on servers and IP storage systems.

The BladeEngine includes a high-speed IPSec encryption engine that supports 3DES, AES, SHA-1 and MD-5 algorithms in hardware, making it best suited to deliver end-to-end security, reliability and data protection.

I/O Virtualization technology is key to BladeEngine, scaling up to 32 virtual domain groups with independent hardware based QoS filters to regulate network and IP storage traffic routed to each hosted Virtual Machine or guest operating system. BladeEngine I/O virtualization technology addresses the need for advanced enterprise class virtualizaton with driver support for VMware ESX and XEN hypervisors.
